Life in Hawaii Kai is very laid back and suburban, with the most activity occurring during daytime and evening hours. Hobbies such as golfing and boating are very popular along with anything involving the great outdoors. Families and friends enjoy beach days under the Hawaiian sun in clear blue waters and relaxing on the golden sand. They enjoy frequent hikes along scenic trails, such as those within the phenomenal China Walls. With the array of shops and businesses in the city center, residents have everything they need in the neighborhood without ever having to stray too far from home.

The city center of Hawaii Kai hosts delicious restaurants, fabulous shopping areas, and a calendar of events to keep residents and visitors occupied. While most restaurants and shops close early and there isn’t a particular nightlife scene, there are an endless amount of places to attend during the daytime and evening hours. The Island Brew Coffeehouse is a buzzing hangout in town, with a beautiful patio and ocean views. The Koko Marina Shopping Center and the Hawaii Kai Shopping Center are home to dozens of restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues to enjoy. 

With stunning scenery at every turn in the city, such as the incredible Halona Blowhole Lookout on the east coast cliffs, spending time in the great outdoors is a popular form of entertainment for residents and visitors alike. Many residents make the most of their prime location along the coast by frequently enjoying the water sports and going on boating excursions. 

 

Things to Do

There’s never a shortage of activities to enjoy in Hawaii Kai. For fun and leisure, nature enthusiasts can take a trip to the Hanauma Bay for an afternoon filled with activities such as kayaking, bodysurfing, and snorkeling in the crystal clear blue waters with colorful fish and coral. Surrounded by the beautiful green space, Hanauma Bay Park is a popular destination for picnics. Sea Life Park is a top attraction in Hawaii Kai. You can swim with dolphins, get kissed by a sea lion, touch a Stingray, and watch the sharks.

For an adventure on land, the China Walls features stretches of lava-rock edges along the ocean to hike around, with activities such as cliff jumping being popular throughout the area. When it comes to hiking, the Makapuʻu Point Lighthouse Trail and Koko Head Crater Hike are crowd favorites, with incredible scenic stops along the way such as Koko Head.
